How to clean and lubricate the axes (Sigma Series)

Cleaning and lubricating the axes will ensure you proper motion between mechanical elements

It is recommended to periodically clean and grease the axes of the BCN3D Sigma D25 with the lubrication kit in order to ensure a smooth and precise performance of its mechanical components. You can find the Lubrication Kit in our store.

Below you will find a detailed step by step guide on how to lubricate and clean the axes of your printer.

Starting at the LCD screen, go to Utilities /Maintenance/Move printing surface. To work comfortably, lower the platform to the lowest position. Then turn off the machine

With an absorbent paper or cloth, remove any trace of dirt or dust on the two Z shaft bars. Next, clean the shaft bars with the solvent pencil, being careful that it does not drip. Clean the shaft bars again using paper or a cloth.

Apply the lubricating oil pencil along the Z shaft bars, being careful that it does not drip. Once done, clean off any grease or dust from the Z-axis motor spindle with a paper or cloth. Turn the spindle manually to access its rear.

Apply the grease along the spindle of the Z-axis motor.

Turn on the printer and from the LCD screen, go to Utilities /Maintenance/Move printing surface. Raise and lower the platform twice to evenly distribute the oil and grease. Remove the remaining grease.

Once the process for the Z axis is finished, clean and lubricate the X and Y linear guides. Start by turning off the printer. During this process, it’s recommended to manually move the axes in order to reach all the guides.

From the center towards the ends of the linear guides of the X and Y axes, remove dirt with an absorbent paper or cloth.

Clean the guides with the solvent pencil, being careful that it does not drip with special emphasis on the superior and inferior faces.

Clean the X and Y guides again with an absorbent paper or cloth.

Apply the lubricating oil pencil along the linear guides of the X and Y axes, with special emphasis on their superior and inferior faces. Be aware that there is no excess oil dripping.
